Let's face it: This hasn't been a fun semester for animal abusers at the University of Michigan.
It was already tough enough for them to continue torturing animals with the entire student body against them. Then, a brave PETA member had the nerve to speak out against their cruelty during a conference, publicly shaming them in front of their peers.
Now, just as they thought the semester was finally coming to a close, they get hit again. This time, students, including one dressed in a cat costume, joined with local residents to hand-deliver petition signatures from 100,000 people against the University. The story is already getting media coverage locally, which means all eyes are back on the vivisectors again—tough break. ![]()
Here's a video of how it all went down:

Hmm … I bet that when that shameless front for the cruel animal experimentation industry, the Foundation for Biomedical Research (FBR), started putting up a series of misleading and offensive billboards, it wasn't expecting them to get a makeover:
Compassionate daredevils have been giving these billboards much-needed improvements wherever they pop up, like the one above in Seattle, and another one in Portland, Oregon.
Meanwhile, PETA has our new—and more honest—ads which are going up in cities around the country!

What do you think?

Cows are my favorite animals. They are ridiculously cute and sweet, and guess what? They like new toys (just like the rest of us)!
Check out Herbie, as he falls in love with his new ball.

When we rescued Nudge and Olaf from miserable conditions in South Carolina hoarding facility Sacred Vision Animal Sanctuary, they were in desperate need of medical attention and love. Now, little more than a month later, they are healthy, playful, and enjoying their new homes.
Nudge's years spent in a cage are a distant memory as she runs and plays with her big brother, Tigger, in her new home with the parent of a PETA staffer. The two cats have become inseparable, and after playtime, they can often be found curled up in bed or watching TV together. Nudge's guardians say she is the perfect addition to the family.
PETA staffers were so charmed by Olaf that we couldn't bear to part with him. He's now an official office cat and spends his days bouncing from desk to desk and lap to lap. Despite a missing eye, a broken tail, and arthritic knees, he manages to keep everyone in line. He loves to play and cuddle with his fellow office cats, like Brandi, whom he's hanging out with in this picture:

If you are ready to open your home and heart to a new cat, visit the wonderful animals at your local shelter.

Free Stuff Friday: Metropolis Soap BarsRemember Toka, Iringa, and Thika, the three remaining elephants at the Toronto zoo? These elephants, like all elephants, are highly intelligent, social and mobile animals—and they can't possibly get the stimulation they require to be physically and mentally healthy at the Toronto Zoo.
The good news? The Toronto Zoo is now conducting a review of its elephant program and is considering closing its elephant exhibit, which could free the three remaining elephants held by the zoo, Toka, Iringa, and Thika!
The Performing Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) sanctuary in California is prepared to give Toka, Iringa, and Thika acres of land to roam, ponds to bathe in, vegetation to graze on, much warmer weather than Toronto can offer, and the companionship of other elephants.
These elephants need your voice to help make this happen!
On May 12, 2011, Toronto officials are set to decide the fate of Toka, Iringa, and Thika—please contact Toronto Mayor Rob Ford and the city's councillors and politely ask them to deny any further funding to the zoo until there is a plan in place to relocate Toka, Iringa, and Thika to the PAWS sanctuary!

Once you write to Toronto Mayor Rob Ford and the city's councillors, e-mail us at StreetTeam@peta2.com to let us know. You'll get 150 Street Team points!
Thanks for sticking up for elephants!

Did you know that companies still blind, poison, and kill animals in product tests for things like toothpaste and hairspray? Yep, weird world—but you don't have to buy products that are tested on animals. More and more companies are giving up animal testing in favor of more humane and effective testing these days, so it's easier than ever to get cruelty-free products.
I bet a lot of people don't realize that they can walk into their local grocery store and grab cruelty-free (and vegan) products like deodorant, shampoo, and face wash. Of course, not every cruelty-free product is vegan, so you'll still want to keep an eye out for the weird things people try to sneak in (silk, honey, milk, etc.).

Just how easy is it to shop cruelty-free? The peta2 staff has teamed up to share our fave commonly found products with you guys!
Your local drug store, grocery store, or Target:
Your local mall:
The Internet:
It's super easy to find cruelty-free products online—they're available all over the place! Anna's favorite product to grab online is Ecco Bella's mascara (she keeps raving about it—maybe you ladies should check it out).
At home:
Did you know that you can make a ton of products on your own, like shampoo, conditioner, and even lip scrub? Click here to see our DIY recipes!
Also, if you have a Trader Joe's store near you, you can find a bunch of cruelty-free body products. They sell Tom's toothpaste, a really awesome tea tree oil face wash, facial moisturizer, shampoos, conditioners, dish soap, and many other cruelty-free products. They even have a list of vegan products!
What's your fave cruelty-free product?
P.S. Need a cruelty-free pocket shopping guide? E-mail us at peta2@peta2.com with your full name and mailing address (U.S. and Canada only!). Be sure to put "Shopping Guide" in the subject line of your e-mail! You can also search our cruelty-free company database here!

Yahoooooo—prom season is here! Bring on the sexy dresses, cute boys, and fun times!
Need help amping yourself up for the glorious occasion? (Ha, I doubt it!) Go see Prom, starring vegan actress Aimee Teegarden, which opens in theaters tomorrow. Yep, Aimee is not only vegan, but she's also outspoken against fur and loves her pooch Gizmo. I'm gonna see this movie just 'cause she's rad!

The teenybopper side of me loooves a good prom flick… In fact, I just watched Pretty in Pink last week (for the bazillionth time), and it was awe-some! If you haven't seen it yet, you're depriving yourself of a classic '80s gem!
What's your favorite prom-themed movie?
